April 2023 - Week 13

Hi, I’m Fhirrun and I love to cook. But what I like most, is eating all kinds of dishes. So I was very happy today, when I was given to Andy. Andy lives in Rotterdam. We went grocery shopping together, to make a dish for Andy’s ill mum. Andy wanted to help her out, since she wasn’t able to cook for herself today.

We walked to the supermarket together. Once there, we first went to take a shopping cart. We had to wait because the person in front of us was trying to find the right coin in his wallet. It was an old man. I think he must have been around 80 years old. Unfortunately he didn’t have the right coin for the cart. He was a little confused and looked at us and mumbled that he was going to grab a shopping basket that could hopefully carry all his groceries. Andy didn’t reach for his wallet. Instead he had a keychain with two coins hanging on it. He took one of the coins and put it in the shopping cart. While we were walking towards the entrance of the supermarket, Andy stopped. He took the other coin from his keychain and handed it to the old man. The man looked surprised, but was also happy that he was able to get a shopping cart himself.

I couldn’t stop smiling once inside the supermarket. All that food, just to grab. We don’t have something like this in the world I came from. In my world we have to search all day to have the right ingredients to make a nice dish. But here in the supermarket we could take anything we want. I was feeling really happy. We took some vegetables, pasta and a bottle of tomato sauce. Andy also took some deserts and something to drink. At the checkout I became less happy, since I saw Andy’s face. The groceries were quite expensive. Andy didn’t count on that, but he paid for the groceries and we walked out of the supermarket.

Near the exit we bumped into the old man we met before. He smiled at Andy and asked him if he wanted to have his coin back. Andy smiled back and answered: ‘No, thanks. You may keep it. It’s yours now and you can use it every time you need a shopping cart.’ The old man was very happy to hear that and he offered Andy some fruits in exchange for the coin. He said that he got the fruit in discount. He had bought twice the amount he needed and hopefully he could do something back for the help. Andy smiled at the old man and refused kindly, because he did a little good deed for the man and he didn’t want anything in return. ‘Perhaps you can give it to someone who needs it more than me’, Andy said to the old man and we walked away, back to his mother’s house.

Andy made a nice pasta dish and his mother was very happy to have dinner together. The pasta smelled really delicious. I would have loved to eat a bite, but unfortunately -in this state of mine- I can’t. We had a nice time together and it was a positive day for all of us. Andy did two good deeds in one day. I wonder whom I will spend the day with tomorrow.

April 2023 - Week 14

This week started at the place of a nice lady called Martha. She is a single mum with a small income. She has a 6 year old son and an 8 year old daughter. Her children are very nice and the boy really wants to be a football player. Unfortunately Martha can’t afford it to send him for football lessons.

The first day Martha was very busy. In the morning she took her kids to school. Afterwards she went to her work. When she came back home, she took her kids to her parents and went out for her second job. At night she took the kids home. Once she put her kids to bed, she had a microwave dinner while she watched some television and then went to sleep herself.

The next day Martha was busy too. This day she was overthinking what good deed she could do for someone else. She decided to take her children out to dinner. Despite her low income she paid a visit to the McDonalds. Martha surprised both of her kids with a happy meal. But Martha wasn’t sure if this was doing something for someone else, so she decided to make a little donation for the Ronald McDonald’s house for sick children.

April 2023 - Week 15

I’m happy with all the good deeds we are doing together, each and every day, again and again. Today I went to Oscar. He is a good cook and makes delicious food as a party caterer. He was making a party meal for a birthday boy whose parents ordered two different kinds of dishes. As a birthday gift, Oscar made an extra dish for which he didn’t charge anything. His customers were very happy with that.

This week I also spent some days with a market trader. He had a storehouse full of stuff he didn’t manage to sell in the past. He had loads of new clothing and shoes which he donated to poor people for free. I saw a lot of happy faces. His help was good enough for 73 deeds by himself. That’s the spirit!

April 2023 - Week 16

After a week full of nice little good deeds I was spending the day with Max. He is a very busy man because of his job as a lawyer. When he was walking home, he saw a nice old lady with a walker. She accidently dropped one of her gloves. Max saw it happen and picked up the glove from the sidewalk. The old lady was very happy because she had pain in her back and because of her old age it would took her a lot of effort to reach for the glove herself.

Another action that surprised me this week was so simple, anyone could copy this one. Florian loves to eat at different fast food restaurants. He has all the apps of the restaurants and he earns a lot of points with every order. Florian came up with the idea to spent his points for free food which he gave away to 4 different homeless people. They were very happy with the food.
